Though already a force to be reckoned with in the realm of haute joaillerie and watches, L.U.C by Chopard is also fast gaining momentum in the world of complications. The company itself was established in 1860 by Louis-Ulysee Chopard who had grown up in the watch-making area of Switzerland known as Jura. It remained a family business until 1963, when its owner, Paul Andre Chopard who had no children, decided to sell the company to jeweler Karl Scheufele.
A match made in heaven, Scheufele could now tap into his own manufacturing facility instead of buying his movements from various Swiss manufactures. By consolidating his watch and jewelry businesses, Chopard was well-placed to produce the best in both worlds.
Since then, the company has been granted the official designation of ‘Manufacture’, and in the spirit of its founding father, Chopard chose to give his name to the new movements: L.U.C. that is, Louis-Ulysee Chopard. With these new movements, Chopard declared its intentions of returning to its origins as a producer of exceptional quality watches.
In 1977, the L.U.C. was voted Watch of the Year in Switzerland, setting the tone for its success ahead, as again evidenced by the uniquely exceptional limited edition of 100 L.U.C. Tech Twist timepieces available only at Sincere’s Haute Horlogerie Boutique.
With the award-winning LUC 96 TB base movement, this 41mm steel watch offers a COSC-certified chronometer, along with the circular satin-brushed dial with polished bevels and rhodium appliqués and off-centered small seconds, giving this watch an aesthetic appeal that will engage collectors immediately. With its 65 hours of power reserve, the self-winding watch is water-resistant to 30 metres.
Limited to only 100 pieces. |
